Details of Day Tours

The tour begins with hotel pickup in Pereira and transfer to the farm. A welcome awaits amidst the coffee plants: a cup prepared in the traditional style and a glimpse into the family`s history before we begin. Before entering the plantations , each participant receives typical coffee farmer attire —a poncho, hat, and basket —one of those details that immerses the traveler in the culture they are about to experience.

The guide explains the planting process, the harvest cycles, and the conditions that define the quality of the beans at this coffee farm in Risaralda . Then comes the main event: each participant plants their own coffee tree in Colombia , on the land of a fourth-generation family farm that has been producing coffee for decades with the same care inherited from their great-grandparents.

Next, the group works with the coffee beans: hand-picking in the coffee plantations and processing them with the original machines the family used decades ago, comparing their operation with current equipment. It`s not a theoretical explanation—it`s a journey through the technical evolution of Colombian coffee using the actual tools of each era.

The final part of this coffee tour in Pereira is dedicated to a filter coffee tasting, accompanied by homemade cake and a surprise product that the group discovers on the spot. It`s the perfect ending to a coffee experience in Colombia where the entire process is experienced firsthand, with hands in the soil and a cup at the end of the journey.

Reviews of Plant A Coffee Tree On A Coffee Farm

Planting My Coffee Tree in Pereira: Pure Joy Experience

Reviews

Honestly, this was the highlight of my time in Pereira. Tangol made everything easy - pickup on time, friendly guide, and info the whole way. At the farm we got our hands dirty planting our own coffee tree, learned the process from seed to cup, and did a tasting with mountain views. The farmers were warm, and patient with all our questions. Expect some mud (they gave us boots), lots of sun, and aromas. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and water. If you love coffee or just authentic experiences, this is a must. I'd do it again.

The experience includes a guided tour of a traditional coffee farm in the Coffee Region, planting your own coffee tree with the assistance of coffee growers, a complete explanation of the process (seed, nursery, cultivation, harvesting, processing, and roasting), and a tasting of single-origin coffee. It includes planting materials and tools, farm entrance fee, an expert local guide (Spanish; English upon request), and basic local insurance. This is a small-group tour focused on responsible and sustainable tourism. Tips, personal expenses, and additional meals are not included, unless specified by the operator. At the end, you can take photos and, at many farms, receive a certificate of your planting. Details are confirmed on the voucher.
The tour typically lasts between 3 and 4 hours, not including transfers. It operates year-round in Pereira, with departures in the morning (approximately 8:00–9:00 AM) and, depending on availability, in the afternoon (1:00–2:00 PM). The exact time and assigned farm will be confirmed upon completion of the online booking and receipt of the electronic voucher. We recommend the morning departure to enjoy cooler weather and better light for photographs at the coffee farm. During peak season (December–January, Easter week, and holidays), spaces fill up quickly: book in advance. For private groups, it is possible to adjust the itinerary and pace by coordinating with the local operator.
Most tours offer pickup from centrally located hotels in Pereira or a designated meeting point in the city. Transportation is provided in a fully insured tourist vehicle with a licensed driver. After confirming your booking, you will receive the exact address, map, and arrival time (please arrive 10–15 minutes early) on your voucher. If you prefer to arrive independently, the tour operator will provide GPS coordinates and access to the coffee farm`s parking lot. Transfers from other cities in the Coffee Region (Armenia, Salento, Manizales) may incur an additional cost and have limited availability. Please keep your phone active for coordination via WhatsApp on the day of the tour.
To enjoy the excursion, wear comfortable, breathable clothing, closed-toe, non-slip shoes (avoid sandals), a hat or cap, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a light raincoat, as intermittent rain is common in the Coffee Region. Also bring a reusable water bottle, a fully charged camera or smartphone, and some cash to purchase local coffee or handicrafts. If you have allergies or take medication, bring it with you. During the tour, you will walk along natural trails and dirt paths; appropriate clothing will improve your safety and comfort. On rainy days, mud is common: wear shoes that you can easily clean and bring spare socks.
This excursion is of low to moderate difficulty and suitable for families traveling with children. It involves short walks along uneven trails and gentle slopes on the coffee farm. We recommend a minimum age of 5 years old and that children be accompanied by an adult. Seniors with good mobility can participate; it is essential to wear appropriate footwear and walk at a leisurely pace. Pregnant women or people with reduced mobility should inquire beforehand: some farms do not have accessible entrances or restrooms. If you require adjustments to the pace, additional stops, or assistance, please inform the operator when booking so we can prepare the experience safely.
