Details of Day Tours

Located just two hours from Bogotá, the Sumapaz National Park protects one of the most incredible and unique ecosystems of the continent: the paramos of the Andes.

We will start our day between 07 and 09 AM with the pick up at your place of accommodation, you choose the pick up time within that time slot. We will go directly to the Sumapaz region. It will be a journey to the heights, reaching between 3500 and 4000 meters above sea level.

We will start the morning by charging ourselves with energy with a typical breakfast at the house of our specialist guide in the moors. Afterwards, we will tour thelocal market to choose the products you would like to try for lunch, which will be cooked by our guide`s family, while we venture into the mountains.

Once your purchases are ready, the trekking begins. We will walk along the permitted trails within the Sumapaz National Natural Park, around 178,000 hectares are suitable for travel and contemplation. The park is one of the high mountain sites richest in species of Colombian flora, most of them endemic.

We will tackle approximately 14 km of trails, where we will cross paths with  large number of lagoons of glacial origin. Among them: Boca Grande lagoon, Chisacá lagoon,Larga lagoon, La Guitarra lagoon, El Cajón lagoon, Nevado lagoon.

Our guide will tell you about indigenous traditions that were practiced in the area before colonization and you will learn about the environmental problems that this sector has as a result of mining and the overexploitation of resources; you will understand the need to preserve the moors for the stability of the region and the environment.

Then After several hours of being amazed by the water wells, the muddy roads, the cloudy landscapes and the wonderful flora, we will say goodbye to what is “the most important water source in the region.” and we will head towards the Sumapaz hamlet to rest and enjoy a delicious hot lunch.

When the afternoon falls we will return to Bogotá, the activity ends with the return to your place of accommodation.
