Located just two hours from Bogotá, Sumapaz National Park protects one of the most incredible and unique ecosystems on the continent: the Andean páramos.
We will start our day between 6:30 and 7 AM with pick up at your accommodation. We will head directly to the Sumapaz region. It will be a trip to the heights, reaching about 3500 and 4000 meters above sea level.
We will start the morning meeting the guide in the Usme area, there we will receive the necessary instructions to have a safe day and enjoy the moorland landscape to the fullest.
The trekking starts around 10 AM. We will walk along the permitted trails within the Sumapaz National Natural Park, around 178,000 hectares are suitable for walking and contemplation. The park is one of the high mountain sites richest in Colombian flora species, most of them endemic.
We will walk between 12 to 14 km of trails, where we will come across a large number of glacial lagoons. Among them: Boca Grande lagoon, Chisacá lagoon, Laguna Larga, Laguna La Guitarra, Laguna El Cajón, Laguna del Nevado.
Our guide will tell you about the indigenous traditions that were practiced in the area before colonization and you will learn about the environmental problems that this sector has as a result of mining and overexploitation of resources; You will understand the need to preserve the moors for the stability of the region and the environment.
After several hours of being amazed by the water wells,the muddy roads, the cloudy landscapes and the wonderful flora, we will enjoy a delicious lunch surrounded by what is “the most important water source in the region”.
When the evening falls, we will return to Bogotá, the activity ends with the return to your accommodation around 6 PM.
