Valdivia has an oceanic climate, with rainy winters and mild summers. During winter, from June to August, temperatures can drop to 5 degrees Celsius and rain is common. In summer, from December to March, temperatures are more pleasant, around 20 degrees Celsius. It is advisable to bring appropriate rain gear at any time of the year, to fully enjoy outdoor activities.
To get to Valdivia from Santiago, tourists can take a direct flight of approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes to Pichoy Airport, which is about 32 kilometers from the city. From the airport, a taxi or shuttle can be taken which takes around 30 minutes to reach the center of Valdivia. Alternatively, there are intercity bus options which take approximately 10 hours and offer a scenic tour of the southern Chilean route.
