We will begin our historical and cultural tour through the emblematic historic center of the heroic city. We can meet between 09:00 AM until 03 PM, you choose the time that is most comfortable for you.
The meeting point andfirst visit will be the Clock Tower, an imposing tower that marks the main entrance to the walled city. The tower was built in the 19th century and has a clock that still works today.
A few meters from the tower, we will find the monument to Don Pedro de Heredia, the founder of the city, who paradoxically stands out for having been a slave trader and having subjected to the indigenous population of the region. In this site our guide will introduce us to the complex history of the city and will highlight the importance of the inclusion of the diverse cultures that are part of Cartagena.
We will enter the Walled City, an impressive set of walls surrounding the historic center. The walls were built during colonial times to protect the city from attacks by pirates and rival nations. Today, the walled city is an unmissable stop for all travelers visiting Cartagena.
We will continue towards the heart of the historic center to find The Church of San Pedro Claver, an impressive Baroque-style structure that was built in the 17th century. XVII in honor of the Spanish Jesuit missionary San Pedro Claver, today known as “Slave of slaves” thanks to his dedication to the fight against slavery in Colombia.
From there, we will head towards the Getsemaní neighborhood through of quiet calleys, cobbled paths, churches, smaller squares, all of which have their own charm and character. We will close our activity with a visit to Plaza de la Trinidad, a lively square where locals usually gather to enjoy music and food.
