Day 1: Uribia, Salinas de Manaure and Punta Gallinas
Your adventure begins very early, leaving at 05:30 am from Riohacha to Punta Gallinas. The first stop will be at the Manaure Salt Flats, where you will get to know the salt ponds up close and learn about artisanal extraction, an ancient process guided by local experts. Then, we will advance towards Uribia, known as "The Indigenous Capital of Colombia." This small town in La Guajira serves as a gateway to many of the natural and cultural attractions of the region. Here you can have a snack and freshen up before continuing.
We will continue towards Bahía Honda, one of the key stops on the route to Punta Gallinas. This place offers a unique combination of natural beauty and tranquility, ideal for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy stunning landscapes. At this point, you will enjoy a delicious traditional coastal lunch and time for a relaxing swim in the sea. After lunch, we will continue to the impressive Taroa Dunes, where the golden sand meets the Caribbean Sea. The area around the Taroa Dunes is relatively isolated and unspoilt, allowing you to enjoynature in its purest state.
Exploring the dunes on foot is an unmissable activity. You can walk along the crests of the dunes, enjoy the views and feel the soft sand under your feet. This activity is both relaxing and revitalizing, offering you a unique connection with the desert landscape. All this very close to the Mirador de Casares, where you will capture the best postcards of the Colombian Caribbean.
The day culminates with a visit to the Punta Gallinas Lighthouse, the northernmost point of South America, where you can watch a spectacular sunset before heading to your accommodation for dinner and rest.
Punta Gallinas is known for its impressive geography, combining deserts, cliffs and virgin beaches. This remote corner of Colombia offers an almost surreal landscape that seems taken from another world. The region is also home to the Wayúu indigenous community, which has inhabited these lands for centuries, preserving their traditions and culture in harmony with the natural environment.
You will learn about the history of Punta Gallinas, intertwined with local legends and a rich cultural heritage , making it a place of deep meaning for the Wayúu.
Day 2: Cabo de la Vela
We will start the day with acomforting breakfastat your accommodation in Punta Gallinas. From there, we will leave for the emblematic Cabo de la Vela, an exciting journey of approximately three hours. Upon arrival, you will visit Rainbow Beach, famous for its vibrant rock formations and the rainbows that are created when water hits rocks.
Next, you will ascend the mystical Pilón de Azúcar, a sacred place for the Wayúu community, from where you can enjoy incomparable panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. You will have time to relax on the serene Playa Dorada, take a refreshing swim and enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings. Subsequently, you will enjoy a typical lunch of the region, with authentic flavors of local cuisine.
In mid-afternoon, between 2:30 pm and 3:00 pm, we will begin the return to Riohacha, where we will arrive after a tour of approximately three hours.
