The experience will begin in the afternoon, with hotel pick-up in San Gil, to begin the journey to Barichara, one of the most representative heritage towns in Santander. During the journey, the landscape will gradually change, giving way to the mountains and canyons that surround the town.
Upon arrival in Barichara, the tour will begin at an ideal time to enjoy the sunset, when the golden light highlights the colonial architecture, the cobblestone streets, and the warm tones of the stone that characterize the town. From one of its viewpoints, we`ll have a privileged view of the Santander landscape, a perfect spot for photographs and for understanding the relationship between the natural environment and the history of the municipality.
We`ll continue with a guided walk through the historic center, visiting the main park and the main church, spaces that concentrate much of the cultural and religious life of Barichara. As night falls, the town`s atmosphere transforms, offering a more tranquil and authentic experience.
The tour will continue to the San Lorenzo Foundation, known as the Casa de Papel (Paper House), a cultural project that revives traditional crafts and promotes the region`s artisanal heritage. Later, we will visit the Santa Bárbara Square and Chapel, one of the most emblematic and photogenic spots in the municipality.
We will continue along the historic Lengerke Road, an old trade route that played a part in the region`s economic development and is now a living testament to Barichara`s past.
In the evening, we will pause to enjoy dinner in a welcoming atmosphere that invites you to share and relax. Later, we`ll visit local artisan workshops, where we`ll learn about traditional techniques and the work of the town`s artisans.
To conclude the experience, we`ll enjoy a tasting of hormigas culonas (big-bottomed ants) and artisanal sabajón (a type of eggnog), emblematic flavors of Santander that are part of its cultural identity. The tour will also include a photo package, perfect for capturing a memory of this special evening before heading back after a night that combines sunset, history, gastronomy, and tradition.
