The adventure begins at 5:30 AM with pick-up from hotels located in the Bucaramanga metropolitan area. The three-hour journey to the Santurbán Páramo will allow you to enjoy a vibrant mountain landscape , while we make a stop en route for a typical breakfast that will energize you for the trek.
Upon reaching the páramo, we will find ourselves in one of Colombia`s most important ecosystems. The Santurbán Páramo, located at an altitude exceeding 3,000 meters above sea level, is a veritable "water factory" that supplies millions of people, as its 26 lagoons are the source of the water that feeds rivers and towns in two provinces.
We`ll continue with a 40-minute hike to Laguna Negra , which will take you along trails surrounded by frailejones , an emblematic plant of the páramo ecosystem that can live up to 300 years. During the hike, your guide will tell you about the 457 plant species and 293 animal species that inhabit this area, including the spectacled bear and the golden eagle.
Laguna Negra, a mirror of crystal-clear water surrounded by imposing mountains, is one of the most amazing spots in the moorland , not only for its beauty, but also for its relevance in regulating the water cycle.
After the visit to the lagoon, we will do a Stop at Refugio Piedra Parada, a cozy spot where you can enjoy the tranquility and contemplate the landscape. There you`ll have a typical Santander lunch, with options like fresh trout or meats, offering a delicious taste of the local cuisine.
Afterwards, the tour will continue to the picturesque village of Berlín, in the municipality of Tona. This place, characterized by its cool climate and high-altitude landscapes , has a rich history in agriculture and livestock farming.
Before returning to Bucaramanga, we`ll visit the Berlin Dam waterfall on the Jordan River , a natural haven where you can relax and breathe in the fresh mountain air . The experience will conclude around 4:00 PM.
