We meet at 9 AM at the pick-up point meeting in Villa de Leyva, ready to begin our exploration of Boyacá. We will leave early to make the most of the day and enjoy the best towns in the region:
* Paipa >> Our first destination is Paipa, located just 14 kilometers from Tunja. Known for its hot springs and Sochagota Lake, Paipa is a historic site that played a crucial role in Colombia`s independence. During the Battle of Vargas Swamp in 1819, Colombian troops led by Simón Bolívar secured a decisive victory against royalist forces, marking a milestone in the fight for freedom. We will learn about this important event as we explore the surrounding area and enjoy the views of the lake.
* Vargas Swamp >> We continue towards the Vargas Swamp, another fundamental historical site in Colombian national history. There, in the middle of impressive landscapes, the battle that consolidated the independence of Colombia was fought. We will stop to reflect on these events and the importance of this place in national history.
* Iza >> After absorbing the history in Paipa and the Vargas Swamp, we headed to Iza, a charming colonial town known for its cobblestone streets and traditional architecture. We will walk through its picturesque streets and discover the cultural richness of its inhabitants, known for their hospitality and delicious local desserts. Iza offers a calm atmosphere that invites us to immerse ourselves in the authenticity of Boyacá.
* Cuitiva >> We continue our trip to Cuitiva, famous for its lagoon, a sacred place for the local community. At an altitude of 3,000 meters above sea level, Cuitiva offers us panoramic views of the moor and the opportunity to learn about the cultural and ecological importance of these highlands. There, we will experience the serenity and spiritual connection that emanates from this beautiful natural environment.
* Lake Tota >> We will arrive at Lake Tota, the largest lake in Colombia and one of the highest in South America, located 3,015 meters above sea level. sea. This stunning body of water not only offers unparalleled scenic beauty, but is also a popular destination for water activities such as boating and fishing.
* Playa Blanca >> On the shores of Lake Tota, we stop at Playa Blanca, a natural paradise with crystal clear waters and white sands. This is the perfect place to relax, swim and enjoy the tranquility of the natural environment. There we can participate in optional water activities and admire the panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
* Nobsa >> After our experience at Lake Tota, we headed to Nobsa, known as the town of weaving. We will explore traditional weaving workshops and learn about the rich textile tradition of Boyacá. We will be able to buy local products and watch how local artisans create beautiful crafts that have been an integral part of the regional culture and economy for centuries.
* Pueblito Boyacense >> Our last destination is Pueblito Boyacense, a charming replica of the most picturesque towns in Boyacá. Founded in 1992, this small district recreates the colonial architecture and atmosphere of the region`s traditional towns. We can walk through its cobbled streets, admire the typical houses and enjoy the local crafts.
After a day full of history, culture and spectacular landscapes, we return to Villa de Leyva, where we will end the visit.
