Details of Day Tours

The old El Ombú de Areco ranch, just 120km from Buenos Aires in San Antonio de Areco, is the birthplace of the gaucho tradition.

The late-colonial style mansion built by Lieutenant-General Pablo Riccheri in 1880 is the perfect base for this unforgettable trip. Enrique Boelcke, grandfather of the current owner Eva Boelcke, bought the property in 1934, and in 1993 the ranch opened its doors to national and international tourists.

Our day trip gives you the chance to explore the 750-acre grounds of the ranch, be that person on the one of the 38 horses making up the working drove, in a horse-drawn carriage or on foot.

The land around the ranch is home to many of Argentina’s 1000 species of bird, full of little lagoons and streams which run towards towards the Areco river.

You can watch and take part in the huge number of different stock-rearing activities on the ranch, things like milking, vaccination, de-horning and ear-tagging all take place at certain times of year.

You can also choose to play billiards, chess, ping-pong or table football in the main room, play also volleyball or football, go on a bike ride or even play golf and tennis at the local country club.

Just 20km from the ranch, you will see the picturesque village of San Antonio de Areco and it’s Museo Gauchesco Ricardo Güiraldes, which displays tools and crafts used in gaucho traditions.

If you come to Argentina don`t miss the opportunity to asado (traditional barbeque), made up of world-famous Argentinian meat and local wines.

You can choose how to spend your day at the ranch, whether you ride the horses or in the horse-drawn carriage, take a walk along the river Areco or play some of the games mentioned above. The ranch also offers traditional gaucho music and dance shows which you are welcome to see.
