Details of Day Tours

Our activity begins from Villa de Leyva, the guide expert will look for you at your accommodation located within the town. Remember that the activity can start from 9 AM to 02:00 PM; We recommend starting early in the morning to make the most of your visits.

We will leave Villa de Leyva to head to the northwest of the province, towards the municipality of  Gachantivá. We will travel along traditional peasant routes. Boyacá, located in central Colombia, is known for its diverse and beautiful landscape, ranging from fertile valleys to highlands and mountains where the climate varies considerably from cold to warm.

After approximately 40 minutes, we will arrive at our first destination: Molino de La Primavera Museum. El Molino is a colonial relic that stands on the green plains surrounding the Cane River. Inside there are parts of the rodezno machinery, which the ancient peasants used for grinding of wheat and corn grains.

With a legacy dating back to 1630, this mill was the heart of flour production for more than three centuries, its name, Primavera, evokes the exquisite finesse of the flour it generated.

We will tour the entire house, We will learn from the expert guide the ancient flour production process, the tools and ancestral artifacts, and the importance that this region had as the granary of the Antigua Colombia, better known as New Granada.

After the tour inside and outside the museum, we will enjoy a delicious typical snack, such as traditional arepas, made with the b>flour produced by peasant hands, accompanied by a delicious hot coffee.

From Gachantivá we will depart towards Sutamarchan, located 30 minutes by car. There our second destination will await us, the Olivanto Orchard. This orchard marks a milestone by housing the olive trees closest to Ecuador and at the highest altitude in the world. Its origin is intertwined with the vision and dedication of Mr. Antonio María Cortés Robles, an agricultural expert and peasant from Boyacá, whose dream began in the 1950s.

During the tour of the huero we will visit the Olivo Museum which has the history of olive cultivation in Colombia and the challenges of its sustainability. The Olive Tree Artisanal Products Shop and the Olive Tree Nursery of different productive varieties.

We will learn different methods and exquisite preparations based on olives and oil and we will taste a variety of unique oils, from the mildest to the most intense, all produced locally. You will learn to distinguish between the different flavor profiles and characteristics of each olive oil, marking the essence of peasant work and its fruits in your palate.

After exploring these two gems peasants, begin the return to Villa de Leyva with a memory full of theauthenticity, flavors and traditions of the region, ready to continue exploring more of this charming Colombian destination.
