Coyhaique is a city located at the southern zone, in the chilean Patagonia. Its name derives from the aonikenk language: Coy (lagoon) and Hayque (camp). This city is connected through different roads, the most distinctive in the region being the Austral Road, and connected through the rest of the country with the Balmaceda airport.

The best time to visit Coyhaique is during the southern summer, from December to February, when temperatures are warmer and days are longer. The most common way to get to Coyhaique from Santiago is by taking a flight to Balmaceda Airport, located about 55 km from the city. From the airport, you can take a transfer, taxi or rent a car to get to Coyhaique. The flight duration is approximately 2 hours and there are several airlines that offer daily flights. It is also possible to get there by road via the Carretera Austral, although it is a longer and more challenging trip.
