The best time to participate in the Puma Tracking excursion in Torres del Paine is during the fall and winter months, from April to September. During these months, puma sightings are more frequent due to the cooler weather and the animals` greater activity during the day. Furthermore, there are fewer tourists, making the experience more exclusive and allowing for closer contact with nature. However, it`s important to prepare for the low temperatures during this season.
No prior ecotourism experience is required to participate in the Ecocamp Patagonia Puma Tracking excursion. This experience is suitable for all skill levels, although a good physical condition is recommended to fully enjoy the hikes. Specialized guides provide all necessary information and support throughout the activity, ensuring that participants understand the dynamics of wildlife observation and the importance of conservation. However, an interest in wildlife and photography further enriches the experience.
For the Torres del Paine hike, it is recommended to wear clothing appropriate for the Patagonian climate, characterized by strong winds and variable temperatures. It is essential to dress in layers, starting with thermal underwear, followed by an insulating layer and a waterproof and windproof outer layer. Sturdy and comfortable hiking shoes, hats, gloves, and scarves are essential. Camera equipment with a telephoto lens is ideal for capturing images of pumas. Don`t forget sunscreen, even in winter, and a small backpack to carry water and supplies during daily hikes.
