Details of Day Tours

Today we will begin our adventure, meeting at 9:30 am, leaving from the meeting point in the center of Hanga Roa.

We will first head towards Ana Kai Tangata, one of  the caves with the most history in Rapa Nui, and one of the most accessible. Here we can see stylized drawings of birds, which represent the Manutara (sea swallows), whose precious egg was the center of the annual competition of the "Bird Man".

We will then visit the ceremonial center of Ahu Vinapu, where we can find large basalt slabs that fit similarly to the Inca constructions in Cuzco. This style of stoneworking isn`t found anywhere else in Polynesia.

After hearing a couple of local stories, we`ll head off to see the Rano Kau Volcano, which forms one of the three large cones that make up the island`s surface. It features a lagoon with small totora reed islands, abundant vegetation, and microfauna.

Finally, we`ll visit the Orongo Ceremonial Village, where the Birdman Ceremony took place. This ceremony, along with the King, designated who would be the spiritual and political leader for a period of one year. This sacred figure, depicted as a shrunken human body and a large bird`s beak, is engraved on many stones.

After exploring Orongo, we`ll return to the town of Hanga Roa. You`ll have time for lunch and the afternoon free.

It will be a beautiful experience, full of culture, stories, and memories.

We`ll be waiting for you. Don`t miss it!
