The experience begins at Villa Alpina, 1,340 meters above sea level, the traditional starting point for Cerro Champaquí. From here, we enter a mountain environment of great beauty, where the aroma of the pine forests and the fresh mountain air anticipate a special day.
The ascent up the eastern slope of Cerro La Mesilla, at 2,007 meters, challenges us with a gradient of 180 meters. The trail winds through the forest, which soon gives way to extensive highland pastures, offering panoramic views and the unmistakable silence of the Achala Pampa.
After about three hours of hiking, we arrive at the San José Ranch, belonging to the López family. This mountain retreat preserves the essence of highland country life and offers a moment of connection with local traditions.
The journey continues to the Socavón Ravine, just half an hour away. There, the Socavón Waterfall awaits us, a waterfall over 30 meters high that opens its way between imposing granite walls. Lunch in this natural setting is the perfect break before heading back along the same path to Villa Alpina.
