Today, we invite you to experience a local adventure that will take us to green spaces and historic sites in downtown Santiago. Parks, modern neighborhoods, and a glimpse into the culture of Santiago`s residents will make for a memorable afternoon. We will explore its rich history, vibrant culture, and unique architecture, blending our origins since colonization.
We will pick you up at your hotel at around 8:00 AM or 2:30 PM to start our adventure and head to Santiago`s historic center.
We will begin by walking about 5 to 10 minutes to our first stop at Cerro Santa Lucía, this green oasis in the heart of the city offers a breath of fresh air amid the bustle. Every corner of this place tells the rich history dating back to pre-Columbian times. Within this beautiful site is the Hidalgo Castle, a fortress built in the 19th century with neoclassical architecture. The cobblestone paths lead to its main gem: terraces, viewpoints, and gardens from where you can admire views of Santiago and the Andes, as well as fountains and sculptures like the Neptune Fountain and Plaza de la Victoria.
Next, we will head to the charming Lastarria Neighborhood, known for its bohemian atmosphere, cobblestone streets, cafes, and art and culture shops. It’s an ideal place to walk and explore.
We will continue our tour towards Plaza de Armas, the starting point of Chile, also known as kilometer 0, it is the historic heart of Santiago. Here, we will see the Metropolitan Cathedral and other historic buildings surrounding the square, such as the City Hall, the Post Office, and the History Museum.
We will then proceed to the important Civic District of the capital, home to prominent governmental and cultural institutions, such as the La Moneda Palace, the presidential seat of Chile and a significant historical and political symbol for the country. This iconic building is noted for its elegant facade and its historical role as the site of the 1973 military coup. Although access to the interior of the palace may be restricted, we can enjoy the beautiful courtyards and gardens surrounding it. If we are lucky and the timing is right, we may also witness the solemn changing of the guard at the presidential palace.
After exploring this picturesque neighborhood, we will drive to "Sanhattan", Santiago`s most modern business district. There, we will admire the tallest building in South America, the vast Vitacura parks, and the vibrant modernity of this dynamic area.
