Today we invite you to
enjoy a day of adventure that will immerse you in the natural wonder of Conguillío National Parkin the heart of Araucanía.
We will leave the hotel in Pucón early in the morning at the agreed time to head to Melipeuco about 124 km from the city. Until
you reach one of the most important places in the region, the Conguillío National Park.
Conguillío was established in 1950 as a Forest Reserve, and in 1970 it was granted the classification of a National Park. In 1987, it merged with Paraguas Park due to its shared ecological and geographical characteristics, so its sovereignty currently extends to 60,833 hectares.
The park is characterized by its extensive forested area, where the araucaria stands out among other species, as well as the lagoons with their pure and crystal-clear waters. Located in the Andean region between 700 and 2,500 meters above sea level, it offers one of the most impressive combinations of nature, not to mention the incredible panoramic views.
The park has 13 marked trails in total, and among the main attractions we will find are the Llaima Volcano, Verde, Arco Iris, Captrén, and Quepe Lagoons, and Lake Conguillío.
This lake is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada and is framed by abundant native vegetation and large Araucaria trees. Coigüe, Lenga, and Cypress forests.
We will also find
within the park the Trucha Linda Salto and
Truful-Truful Salto, Sierra Nevada,
Cerro La Cruz, and the Llaima Volcano ski resort.
The entire area is located where the original Pehuenche ethnic group lived,
which is reflected both in the objects found and in the numerous indigenous names of important places and geographical features.
Six main hiking trails have been identified, and we will visit all of them during the tour. "Sierra Nevada" offers excellent views of Lake Conguillío, the Llaima Volcano, and glaciers along the way. "Los Carpinteros" is located between Araucaria and Lenga forests. You`ll access the Captrén Lagoon, rich in birdlife.
We`ll also visit "Las Araucarias" and "Las Vertientes", both 800 meters long. Along the way, you`ll cross a series of waterways that originate underground. Another trail is the "Cañadón del Truful-Truful" trail, which reveals the area`s interesting geological history. "Cerro Colorado" trail passes along the western slope of the Llama Volcano, offering views of the central valley and the slag heaps.
During our adventure, we will find a spot with the best view to enjoy an exquisite box lunch, replenishing our energy before continuing to our next stop.
Along the way, we will find various examples of local and endemic fauna, such as the puma, the guiña, the black woodpecker, the brown-striped lizard, Darwin`s frog, the freshwater shark, and the mountain monkey, the world`s smallest marsupial, the condor, the harrier, and various aquatic birds that can be seen from its lagoons.
During the trek,
we will be able to appreciate the different lava flows of the Llaima Volcano, which extends to approximately 3,125 meters above sea level. It is one of the most impressive spots for everyone, as we will find lava formations rarely seen anywhere else in the world.
After our adventurous day exploring Conguillío National Park, we will return to our starting point.
This experience will leave us with a sense of accomplishment after exploring this natural paradise.
