The Wharf of Souls is much more than a simple
wooden structure that goes into the ocean waters. It is a place
impregnated with stories and myths
transmitted through generations. Listen to the whisper of the wind while
you immerse yourself in the story of wandering souls
who seek to find eternal peace in
this magical place. You will discover how local beliefs are intertwined with the
natural beauty of Chiloé, creating a unique and captivating atmosphere.
We will start this
experience leaving from the hotel in Castro at 08:00 am, heading towards
the Pacific. We will drive for approximately 20 minutes between houses
ancient until reaching the Pueblo de Huillinco,
today a beach village with a youth hostel.
We will arrive very
early to take advantage of the fresh morning air. We will continue along the shore
from the lake to the Pueblo de Cucao,
an ancient indigenous town recognized because in1734
already had a chapel, and since the 18th century
It was the first stop for the Misiones
Jesuits.
We will arrive later by
the mouth of the lake until we reach the Rahue sector, where we will begin our trekking of approximately an hour and a half
from Punta Pirulil until you reach the
cliffs and the Muelle de las Almas.
The “Muelle del Alma” Kuy Kuy Tempilkawe, is a
work of art in homage to the oral tradition of the Chilote peoples, based on
the legend that tells that when the physical body dies, the soul will rest on
this dock to ask for a ferry and Tempilkawe (the rafter) to whom he asks for his pretty
Llankas (beautifully colored stones) in exchange for carrying his soul in his boat
white foam to the beyond.
We will have time to
appreciate the sculpture created by a renowned Chilean sculptor, and we will have
views of the cliffs that cover the bay
from Cucao.
After the walk
We will head towards the Quilque sector,
and then walk the Tepual Trail,
with its interesting biodiversity within the Park
National of Chiloé.
