The tour to Laguna de los Pozuelos will take you to explore one of the most impressive natural wonders of the Puna region.
Since 1980 , the Laguna de los Pozuelos has been protected and preserved by the National Parks Administration under the category of Natural Monument due to its importance as a nesting site for various migratory birds. Among them, flamingos stand out, which, together, reach an astonishing number of 30,000 individuals. Their presence in the lagoon creates an impressive spectacle, especially during the months of May to September. Once in the lagoon, you will find a spectacular sight: the flamingos looking like a huge pink spot in the middle of this impressive landscape.
The tour begins when we pick you up from Purmamarca, around 9:00 a.m. From there, we will go to the town of Abra Pampa, where you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture. Here you will visit an artisan market, full of treasures made by hand by the talented inhabitants of the region. In addition, you will be able to meet a cooperative of weavers that will show you the richness and art of traditional weaving. From there we left for this impressive Lagoon with its landscape of flamingos.
In addition to the flamingos, if you are patient and immerse yourself in the silence of the place, you will have the opportunity to observe other fascinating species of local fauna. Among them, the vicuñas, the suris (known as the rhea of the Puna), foxes and chinchillas stand out. Each of these animals has adapted to the heights of the region, since the Laguna de los Pozuelos is located at a relevant altitude of 3600 meters above sea level.
The duration of the tour is one full day, with approximately 9 hours of activity. End times are approximate, with a return to Purmamarca at 6:00 pm.
