Magical Day Wandering Bellavista's Cloud Forest With Tangol Tours Team

    Reviews

From Quito, Tangol whisked us to Bellavista early. The drive into the cloud forest felt like entering a green dream. Our guide knew every bird call - within minutes we were spotting tanagers, toucans, and hummingbirds buzzing inches from our faces at the feeders. Trails were misty, muddy, and truly magical, with orchids and moss everywhere. Lunch at the lodge was super tasty. Pace was relaxed, with enough stops for photos and binocular time. Bring a light rain jacket, good shoes, and curiosity. If you love nature, this full-day adventure is a must. Five stars for Tangol's organization.

The full-day excursion to the Bellavista Cloud Forest typically includes round-trip transportation from Quito in a tourist vehicle, a bilingual (Spanish/English) naturalist guide, entrance to the Bellavista Reserve, guided hikes along cloud forest trails, stops at hummingbird feeders for photography and birdwatching, and lunch at the lodge. Water, coffee or tea, and interpretive talks about flora, fauna, and conservation are usually provided. Alcoholic beverages, tips, personal expenses, and optional equipment are typically not included. This ecotourism experience is ideal for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and those who enjoy gentle trekking in Ecuador.
The full-day tour departs early from Quito (approximately 6:30–7:30 am) with pick-up from hotels in tourist areas. After a scenic 2-hour drive to the northwestern Andes, you`ll arrive at the Bellavista Reserve for a briefing and the first interpretive hike (1.5–2 hours) along cloud forest trails. Afterward, you`ll visit hummingbird feeders and enjoy lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, a second short hike to viewpoints or waterfalls is usually included. Return to Quito around 5:30–7:00 pm. The itinerary may be adjusted based on weather and wildlife sightings, prioritizing photography, birdwatching, and safety.
For this cloud forest hike, it`s best to dress in layers and bring: a waterproof/windproof jacket, a breathable t-shirt, comfortable pants, trekking boots with good traction, a hat or cap, a poncho or compact umbrella, sunscreen, insect repellent, a reusable water bottle, light snacks, binoculars, a camera with a waterproof case, cash for personal expenses, and identification. We recommend trekking poles if you have sensitive knees. The climate is cool and humid (12–22°C) with possible fog and drizzle year-round, so technical clothing and a change of dry clothes will make all the difference to your trip.
The difficulty level is low to moderate. The route covers approximately 3 to 6 km along trails with uneven terrain, roots, and slippery steps typical of the Andean cloud forest. The altitude ranges from 1,800 to 2,300 m, so a leisurely pace and constant hydration are recommended. This excursion is suitable for families, couples, photographers, and birdwatchers; children can participate with supervision. It is not suitable for wheelchairs and may be challenging for people with reduced mobility. If you have heart, respiratory, or knee conditions, consult your doctor and the tour operator. No prior technical trekking experience is required.
The price of the Bellavista tour varies depending on the season, group size, and included services (transfers, entrance fees, bilingual guide, lunch). For current rates and promotions, please check the availability calendar and get a quote online on the tour page. Advance booking is recommended, especially for weekends and peak season. Confirmation is usually immediate with an electronic voucher. Change and cancellation policies are provided at the time of booking; they typically allow rescheduling or partial refunds if you cancel 48–72 hours in advance. Credit card payments are accepted. Ask about discounts for families or groups.
