Half Day Option

We will meet at the designated point in Villa de Leyva. The local guide will welcome you and give a brief introduction about the day ahead. 

Our cultural and artisanal tour will last approximately 4 hours and includes a visit to the following emblematic places in Villa de Leyva:  

    • Villa de Leyva semi-desert: We head to the fascinating semi-desert of Villa de Leyva, where we will discover a unique landscape characterized by its sandy terrain and green mountains. There you can learn about the geology of the area and how erosive processes have shaped this terrain and the adaptation of the plant and animal species that inhabit it today. 

    • Blue Wells: Our next destination is the impressive Pozos Azules, a true natural oasis in the middle of the semi-desert. We will walk through this magical place, enjoying the views of the greenish-blue waters that contrast wonderfully with the arid environment. According to legend, the wells are the home of protective spirits of nature, and it is said that bathing in their waters brings good luck and protection.

    This place is ideal for taking spectacular photographs and admiring the natural beauty while you learn about their training. The large amount of minerals present in the area, such as sulfur and copper, give life to the impressive colors of the waters.

    • Paleontological Research Center: We continue towards the Paleontological Research Center, where we will explore an impressive collection of fossils dating back more than 120 years. millions of years. Here, we will meet the oldest fossilized sea turtle in the world and other prehistoric species that inhabited this region. Additionally, the center features full-scale replicas of dinosaurs and other ancient beings, offering a vivid perspective of what life was like in the Mesozoic era.  This center not only houses fossils, but also is an active scientific research center, where you can explore interactive and audiovisual exhibits that explain the fossilization process and the evolution of species over millions of years, a fascinating experience for all ages.

    • Terracotta House: Our last stop is the Terracotta House, the largest craft in the world made entirely of clay. This building, which took approximately 17 years to build, will offer us a unique experience through its innovative design and organic architecture.

    The tour will allow you to explore every corner of this unique house, which includes bedrooms, living rooms, and work spaces, all shaped with unmatched creativity and mastery. This place is not only a tribute to craftsmanship and human creativity, but also a source of inspiration for green construction and sustainable design.


After a tour full of discoveries, we will return to the center of Villa de Leyva to conclude our half-day tour. 


Full Day Option

If you selected the full day option, after the visit to the Paleontological Research Center, we will leave Villa de Leyva, to visit 3 of the most beautiful towns in Boyacá where craftsmanship with a calm and traditional lifestyle.
  • Visit to Sutamarchán: After our paleontology immersion, we head to Sutamarchán, a town known for its traditional chorizos and sausages. We will have the opportunity to walk through its main square and learn about the traditions of this place.

We will enjoy a delicious typical lunch in a local restaurant, where we can taste traditional Boyacense dishes and replenish our energy for the afternoon.

  • Visit to Tinjacá: Our tour continues to Tinjacá, a charming town famous for its ceramics and crafts. Here, we will be able to observe local artisans in action and discover the traditional techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation.

  • Visit to Ráquira: Then we head to Ráquira, known as the "Pueblo de las Pots" due to its rich tradition in ceramic production. We will walk through its colorful streets and visit artisan workshops where we can buy souvenirs and appreciate the skill of local artisans.

To end the day, we will participate in a craft workshop where we can learn and practice some of the local craft techniques. This activity will allow us to take home a souvenir made by ourselves.


At the end of the day, we will return to Villa de Leyva, concluding our 7-hour full-day tour, full of culture, history and craftsmanship.
