Today you will embark on an unforgettable adventure on Chiloé Island with our exciting adventure to Ancud, Caulin, and the Puñihuil Penguin Colony.
From the moment we leave our hotel in Puerto Montt or Puerto Varas, we head toward the picturesque Town of Pargua, where we board a ferry to cross the Chacao Channel to the mythical Isla Grande de Chiloé. During the 45-minute journey, you`ll have the opportunity to spot sea lions frolicking in the water, pelicans flying overhead, and a variety of marine birds, immersing you in the region`s natural beauty.
Once in Chacao, we explore this charming town characterized by its larch wood buildings and the iconic San Antonio de Chacao Church, declared a National Monument. We continue our tour along the coastal route to Caulin, famous for its intertidal wetland, which is home to a rich biodiversity of birds such as black-necked swans, herons, and flamingos, which are especially notable during the winter. This unique landscape invites you to connect with nature while you enjoy the serenity of the surroundings.
We arrive at Puñihuil Beach around noon, where an exceptional experience awaits us: a boat ride to the islets that house the Puñihuil Penguin Colony.
During the 40-minute cruise (ticket not included), you can marvel at the presence of the Magellanic and Humboldt penguins, protected species that find refuge in this National Monument due to its ecological importance.
Finally, we`ll go to Ancud, explore the Local Museum to immerse ourselves in the island`s history and culture, visit the traditional Municipal Market, and discover the imposing
Fort of San Antonio, an 18th-century Spanish fortification that offers stunning panoramic views of the city and the sea.
