We depart at 8:00 AM from hotels in Rio`s South Zone (Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon) in an open-top Jeep. As we drive away from the city, your guide shares information about Tijuca National Park, one of the largest urban forests in the world.
Once inside the park, the Jeep tour of the Tijuca Forest begins. The ride takes us among giant trees, exotic flowers, and the sounds of native birds. The first stop is Taunay Waterfall, where the water cascades over a green, rocky landscape.
A key vantage point is Mirante Excelsior: there we pause to admire the views of the city and the mountains. Rio icons, such as Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain, stand out in the panorama.
Along the way, we learn about the local flora, which includes native plant species such as the pau brasil and the imperial palm. The forest is also home to species such as toucans, marmosets, and other animals that we might spot along the way. You`ll also see ancient chapels and remains of coffee plantations that existed before reforestation.
Towards the end, we visit Mesa do Imperador, a space chosen by the former Brazilian royal family on their getaways to the forest. At this point, there will be time to take photos and relax while the guide tells us more about the connection between royalty and the park.
Finally, we`ll return to the same route to exit the park and return to meeting points and hotels in Rio.
