Details of Day Tours

We will leave Manaus at 09:00 am in our land transport to Ariau, and then take a 45 minute boat ride to the home of the Trible Sateré Mawé.

Upon arrival at noon, we will have a typical indigenous lunch, where the main ingredient is ants, a food that is not lacking in jungle meals. Then, the members of the tribe will explain to us everything about the Indian pharmacy, the natural medicine produced by the leaves and barks of the trees, valuable information that most of us Westerners have forgotten.

Then, we will help the Indians to look for the famous "Tucandeiras" ants to start with the presentation of the ritual, which we do not recommend anyone to try, except the Indians.
During the ritual, we will have the opportunity to film, take pictures and dance with them.

At the end of this fascinating experience, we will say goodbye to start the return to Manaus.

Yes, visiting the Tucandeira ant ritual is safe for tourists. The excursion is organized by specialized tour operators who ensure safety at all times. Participants are not required to interact directly with the ants unless they wish to do so. Guides provide detailed information about the ceremony and give clear instructions to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe. Furthermore, the local communities are accustomed to receiving visitors, so the environment is both welcoming and informative.
For the excursion to the Tucandeira ant ritual, it`s recommended to wear light and comfortable clothing, ideal for the hot and humid Amazonian climate. It`s also important to wear appropriate footwear for jungle trekking. Don`t forget insect repellent and sunscreen to protect yourself from mosquitoes and the sun. A water bottle to stay hydrated is essential. It`s also a good idea to bring a camera to capture the experience and a raincoat in case of rain. Some operators can provide specific recommendations, so consulting your guide is a good idea.
The best time to participate in the Amazonian toucan ant ritual is during the dry season, which runs from June to November. During this period, rains are less frequent and the weather is more favorable for outdoor activities and jungle hikes. Trail conditions are better, facilitating access to indigenous communities and areas of natural interest. However, the Amazon offers unique experiences year-round, so any time can be a good time depending on your specific interests.
Before traveling to the Amazon to participate in the Tucandeira Ant Ritual, it is recommended that you be vaccinated against yellow fever. Although not mandatory, it may be required or advisable depending on your travel itinerary. It is also a good idea to be up to date on other vaccinations such as tetanus and hepatitis. Consult a travel health center before your departure for up-to-date information on health requirements and precautions. Additionally, it is advisable to have medical insurance that covers emergencies during your stay in the Amazon.
