It is located in the southwestern corner of Lake Argentino, 80 km from El Calafate.
One of the greatest natural spectacles in South America is when its 60-metre walls of ice collapse dramatically into the waters of Brazo Rico or the canal.
The icebergs then float out from the canal into the main waters of the lake.
Whilst this happens over and over again, Brazo Rico becomes dammed by the glaciers, while it continues to get filled with water, ice, and snow over the years. Eventually the waters erode a tunnel beneath the glacier and the immense amounts of pressure cause the dam to collapse.
The show is indescribable.
Just 30 km from the entrance to the National Park is the gateway to the glacier, a great place to contemplate its beauty. The Bridge Path is a walk of about 400 metres up to the lowest lookout, nearest to the glacier.
Entrance fee are not included.
