Marpatag Cruises Spirit Of The Glaciers Highlights

"THE SPIRIT OF THE GLACIERS"

3 days / 2 nights

Our exclusive marpatag program The Spirit of Glaciers offers the opportunity to live the magic of the Patagonian glaciers, one of the most impressive sights in the world.

Along with a small group of passengers, we will navigate during three days among stunning ice floes until we reach the most important glaciers of the Parque Nacional los Glaciares: Upsala, Spegazzini, Mayo, and Perito Moreno.

Majestic blue and turquoise millenary ice, of up to 5 kilometers (3 miles) wide; beautiful reddish sunsets; and unique nights, special for looking at the constellation map, make this unforgettable landscape the destination of the most demanding travelers.

Along the trip, we will learn about the evolution of glaciers as well as the history of the pioneers in the region.

The Santa Cruz ship, equipped with huge panoramic windows in the cabins and communal lounges, allows the contemplation of the unique sights that Lago Argentino (lake) offers.

The adventure of the The Spirit of the Glaciers includes landings in specific panoramic sites so as to observe, interpret and understand the most surprising characteristics of the place.

We offer more than a trip. We propose a unique experience in which the passenger will feel part of nature as never before. Welcome aboard to a unique experience in this trip to the spirit of glaciers.

***Navigation Route***

Day 1

We will board at the company’s own dock “La Soledad” (Bahía Tranquila, Paraje Punta Bandera) at 7:30 p.m.

We will navigate towards Bahía Alemana, a hidden bay situated in Península Avellaneda. After dinner, the guests will be invited to share different activities.

Day 2

At 9:00 a.m., we will start navigating towards the North, passing through Punta Avellaneda and Boca del Diablo, which is the narrowest passage in the lake with around 800 meters.

After one hour of navigation along Brazo Norte, we will see the series of ice floes, of the most varied colors and shapes, which anticipate the proximity of the stunning Upsala glacier. We will stop in front of barrier of ice floes which, at present, is blocking the entrance to Canal Upsala. If the weather conditions are good, we will observe the Upsala glaciers at the distance. The Upsala is 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) wide on the lake, its walls are 60 meters (197 feet) high on average, and its total surface is about 900 km2 (347 square miles), including its drainage basin.

We continue navigating Lago Argentino towards the South, taking the Canal Spegazzini for the next stop in front of Spegazzini glacier. The front walls are around 80 and 135 meters (262 – 443 feet). The Spegazzini looks like a huge icy river that descends from a rocky mountainside until it plunges into the lake. It is there, in front of this marvelous sight, where we will enjoy our first lunch.

Towards the afternoon, the Crucero Santa Cruz will arrive at Puesto Las Vacas (an extremely quiet bay in the Canal Spegazzini), where it will stop its engines to let us enjoy a long rest or a walk coordinatedby our team of guides. In this first stop, we will be able to see stunning panoramic views of the Spegazzini glacier.

Once again on-board, we will enjoy a filling afternoon snack. The next destination will be Bahia del Toro, in Seno Mayo. After dinner, passengers can join some of the activities organized by the crew. A lively talk, sharing ideas and the feelings created during the day, or the observation of the constellation map on a moon night, are just perfect for ending the second day of our journey.

Day 3

At dawn, while we navigate south, passengers will have breakfast. We will land once again and get into the Andean-Patagonian woods to experience the magnificent natural landscape of Mayo and Negro glaciers. There, we will get to exclusively know the continental ice shelter where many journeymen left their traces.

After crossing the Canal de los Témpanos, the Crucero will arrive at the most outstanding of the glaciers, the Perito Moreno, where we will travel around the 2.5 kilometer front (1.5 miles) on the lake. Its walls, which are almost 60 meters (197 feet) high, still surprise with numerous calvings and powerful sounds. We will have lunch surrounded by this spectacular natural landscape.

On the way back, while we navigate through Lago Argentino towards the company’s own dock La Soledad, we will have our farewell toast, the end of our journey. At 4 p.m., we will land and be transferred to El Calafate.
