Day 1 PISCACUCHO
(Km.82)–HUAYLLABAMBA: Pick you up from your hotel located in the city of
Cusco to travel by bus to Piskacucho. There will be a stop in Ollantaytambo,
located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, to have a little rest. Our adventure
begins upon arrival at kilometre 82.
We will ascend along a parallel road to Urubamba
River for 3 hours until reach Miskay, a lovely small town where you will
try the popular drink known as Chicha, which is offered by the ladies.
Going up you will have views of
Patallacta, an Inca building located at the bottom of the mountain. Walking for
2 hours along Cusichaca River, we will arrive to a beautiful spot to rest and
enjoy a lunch.
The Inca Trail hike is a unique journey to the amazing citadel of Machu Picchu. We are going to walk
along a path full of vegetation where we will able to appreciate trees such a
cedar and laurel, and also we will admire more than 400 kinds of orchids and
begonias. The Incas always respect the environment, creating trails made with
stones and keeping the natural landscapes with their archaeological sites.
After the break, we will
continue walking until our first camping
in Wayllabamba. You will be able to admire the amazing Andean landscapes, as
well as the majesty of Veronica Mountain. Distance traveled: 6.8 miles –
Approximate time of walk: 5 to 6 hours.
Day 2 HUAYLLABAMBA – PACAYMAYU: After
waking up at 05:30 a.m. and having breakfast, we will start a steep ascent where
you will climb several steps through a spectacular jungle, until reach Llulluchapampa
to take a short rest, and then continuing climbing to the highest point of our
walk through the Abra de Warrmihuañusca or Dead
Woman`s Pass with a high altitude of 4,215 meters above sea level. This
place is considered one of the most beautiful landscapes of the world.
The network of Inca trail crosses the Andean
mountains, passing through the jungle and different highlands during the tour.
We will have the opportunity to see the incredible mountains and the high peaks
of Vilcabamba.
Later, after the ascent, we will
set out on the descend to have lunch. After lunch, we will get our camping in
Pacaymayo to spend the night. Distance traveled: 6.21 miles – Approximate time
of walk: 6 to 7 hours.
Day 3 PACAYMAYU –
WIÑAYWAYNA: This day will be unforgettable. We wake up for breakfast
at 6:00 a.m., to then start a light
climb for 2 hours to visit the archaeological site of Runkurakay located at
4,000 meters above sea level, that is believed it has been a control tower.
Along the way, you’ll see amazing vegetation, birds and lagoons.
During the Inca trail tour, we are going to be able to admire the national
bird of Peru known as Andean Cock of the
Rock a beautiful bird with spectacular colors, as well as other birds as hummingbirds.
The wonder of the world Machu Picchu
houses spectacled bears, pumas, Andean foxes, ferrets, Maltese cats, and
reptiles such as snakes.
We will descend until we reach
the ruins of Sayacmarka, to continue to Puyupatamarka, an awesome
archaeological complex with a complete engineer water system. We will arrive to
Wiñay Wayna, wich means “Forever
Young”, considered one of the most beautiful ruins after Machu Picchu.
Our camping is located a within
walking distance. Distance traveled: 9.9 miles – Approximate time of walk: 7 to
8 hours.
Day 4 WIÑAYWAYNA –
MACHUPICCHU: Wake up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast. Then,
depart from the campsite around 5:30 am to head towards Machu Picchu. We
will reach "Inti Punku" before
sunrise to see the wonderful Inca citadel. Then, you will enjoy a 2-hour guided walking tour, after which
you can explore Machu Picchu on your
own.
The Inca trail is
a system of roads that connect the entire Inca Empire. It was built during the
15th century, and it links the coast with the Andean mountains.
Also, it was served to transfer food, armies and officials. These amazing
works were made during the government of Inca Pachacutec with the purpose to control
the conquered territory.
After touring the area, you will
have time to climb the Huayna Picchu or
Machu Picchu mountains (optional). We will back to the town of Aguas
Calientes by bus, and then take the train towards Ollantaytambo. From there, we
are going to travel to the city of Cusco to drop you off at the hotel. Distance
traveled: 3.1 miles – Approximate time of walk: 3 to 4 hours.
