Day 1: Marble Chapels - General Carrera Lake
We will receive you at the Balmaceda Airport after your flight (arrival no later than noon) to begin our journey along the Carretera Austral, we will travel 185 km south, contemplating forests of lenga, plum, coigue and ñire, our destination being the town of Puerto Tranquilo.
On our journey we will pass by the Chiguay Lagoon, the Piedra del Conde, and the Cuesta del Diablo, where we will see the famous Cerro Castillo and cross the typical Patagonian town of the same name. We will also pass by the Bosque Muerto (Dead Forest), which remains as such due to the eruption of the Hudson Volcano in 1991.
We will descend through the valley of the Murta River, until we find ourselves facing the General Carrera Lake. We will arrive at Puerto Tranquilo, on the shores of the lake, and once here we will navigate to the "Capillas de Marmol" (Marble Chapels) Nature Sanctuary.
The Marble Chapels are a place of impressive beauty, where the waves of the lake polished and eroded the limestone, forming caves of great attraction. After contemplating the chapels in our navigation we will take our lunch, which can be either menu or box lunch depending on the time of arrival, and then we will go to our lodging (El Puesto Hostel or similar).
Day 2: Valle Exploradores
After breakfast, we will leave in the morning for Valle Exploradores. From Puerto Rio Tranquilo we will go west through the valley where we can appreciate nature in its purest form. We will start a medium difficulty hike crossing a forest, and then over a moraine until we reach the Exploradores Glacier viewpoint. If the weather permits, we will be able to see the immensity of the Northern Ice Field, Mount San Valentín and Glacier Exploradores. We will return to Puerto Tranquilo where we will have our lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, we will go to Coyhaique, and to our accommodation (Hotel El Reloj or similar)
