The excursion begins with the departure from our selected hotels in San Pedro de Atacama, for a short drive to the Catarpe Valley area, known for having the remains of an ancient administrative center of the Inca culture.
In the valley is the entrance of the Catarpe tunnel, where we will start our 2.5 hour hike. The tunnel was built in 1930 to transport the cattle that the muleteers brought from Argentina to the mining centers, being an important historical monument.
We will cross the highest part of the Salt Mountain Range, to reach the heart of the Death Valley from where we will descend through huge sand dunes to finish the hike.
During the tour we will enjoy impressive 360° views of the desert and we are sure to have fun, as it is an excellent opportunity to roll down the enormous sand dunes.
Once our trek is over, we will return to our hotels in San Pedro de Atacama.
