Lake Chungará, one of the highest lakes in the world, offers spectacular landscapes with stunning views of the Parinacota Volcano. The park also boasts unique high-altitude flora and is ideal for hiking and photography. Tourists can also explore small highland villages and learn about the local culture.
The climate in Lauca National Park and Lake Chungará is high plateau-like, characterized by cool temperatures, especially at night, and sunny days with high solar radiation. Temperatures can range from 20°C during the day to 0°C or lower at night. It is advisable to wear warm, multi-layered clothing, as well as a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the cold and the sun. It is also recommended to wear gloves and a scarf, as well as comfortable, sturdy footwear for hiking on uneven terrain.
The excursion to Lauca National Park and Chungará Lake generally includes transportation from Arica, park entrance fees, and a tour guide. The guides provide detailed information about the flora, fauna, and local culture of the highlands. It may also include stops at points of interest such as the town of Parinacota or the Jurasi hot springs. Additionally, some excursions offer snacks or typical lunches from the region. It is important to check with the tour provider exactly which services are included in your chosen package.
The typical tour duration for Lauca National Park and Lake Chungará is approximately 10 to 12 hours.
