We will undertake this
travel back in time to the pre-Columbian civilizations that inhabited this
region. This tour will take us to explore archaeological sites
unique, ancestral mummiesand the
rich cultural heritage that defines this area.
We will begin
entering this journey through the Valley of
Azapa is famous for its lush vegetation and the production of olives and grapes in addition to plantations of mangos and passion fruit. You will enjoy the views
panoramic views of the fields and plantations that contrast with the arid landscape
surrounding.
We will continue
to the housing complex Cerro Sombrero and its panels of Geoglyphs where
highlights La Tropilla, and then also to Sacred Hill of Alto Ramírez. Also in the Valley
from Azapa about 8 km from the coast. The slope that
facing the valley presents a geoglyph made by accumulation of dark stones
on the lighter background of the hill. It presents large human figures,
camelids, snakes and lizards visible from a long distance.
After exploring
these ancient archaeological sites that
date back thousands of years and discover these enigmatic petroglyphs, remains
of homes and evidence of ancestral agriculture that flourished in this
valley, we will continue to our last attraction, the
"Visit to the San Miguel de Azapa Museum".
Here we will dive
in the history of the region through an impressive collection of
archaeological artifacts, ceramics, textiles and, most impressive, the
Chinchorro mummies, the oldest in the world.
The Chinchorro Mummies are one of the main
attractions of this experience. We will know the details of these mummies, how
were prepared and the beliefs surrounding this ancient funeral rite. Is
a unique opportunity to explore a millennia-old funerary heritage.
