Today we will experience a fascinating and unique cultural experience together in the Azapa Valley.
We will pick you up at your hotel at the agreed-upon time. This can be at 9:00 a.m. or in the afternoon at approximately 4:00 p.m. We will reconfirm the schedule together.
We will embark on this journey back in time to the pre-Columbian civilizations that inhabited this region. This tour will take us to explore unique archaeological sites, ancient mummies, and the rich cultural heritage that defines this area.
We will begin this journey through the Azapa Valley, famous for its lush vegetation and the production of olives and grapes, as well as mango and passion fruit plantations. You will enjoy panoramic views of the fields and plantations that contrast with the arid surrounding landscape.
We will continue
to the housing complex Cerro Sombrero and its panels of Geoglyphs where
La Tropillastands out, and then also to Cerro Sagrado de Alto Ramírez. Also in the Azapa Valley, about 8 km from the coast. The slope facing the valley features a geoglyph made by accumulating dark stones on the lighter background of the hill. It features large human figures, camelids, snakes, and lizards visible from a great distance.
After exploring these ancient archeological sites that date back thousands of years and discovering these enigmatic petroglyphs, remains of dwellings, and evidence of the ancient agriculture that flourished in this valley, we will continue to our last attraction, the
Visit to the San Miguel de Azapa Museum.
Here we will immerse ourselves in the history of the region through an impressive collection of
archaeological artifacts, ceramics, textiles, and, most impressively, the
Chinchorro mummies, the oldest in the world.
The Chinchorro Mummies are one of the main attractions of this experience. We will learn the details of these mummies, how they were prepared, and the beliefs surrounding this ancient funerary rite. It`s a unique opportunity to explore ancient funerary heritage.
This Archaeological Tour will allow us to understand the importance of the pre-Columbian civilizations that inhabited this region and how their legacy has endured to this day.
Join us for a journey into the pre-Columbian past in a fascinating corner of Chile!
