During this period, Magellanic penguins are in their breeding and nesting season in the region, offering more frequent sightings. Additionally, the weather is warmer and the days are longer, allowing for a more pleasant experience during beach walks. Be sure to book in advance, as this is a popular tourist season in the region.
The `Sunset with Penguins` excursion lasts approximately four hours, beginning in the late afternoon and ending at dusk. The tour includes transportation to and from Puerto Madryn and takes place at the Punta Tombo Nature Reserve. An expert ecotourism guide will provide interesting information about the penguins` lives and the region`s ecosystem. Comfortable, protective footwear is recommended.
Although it`s tempting to approach the penguins because of their friendly appearance, the nature reserve`s policy is to respect their space and avoid direct contact. To ensure the safety of both visitors and penguins, the guide`s instructions must be followed at all times. This non-invasive approach is essential to preserving the natural environment and the tranquility of these charming birds during the tourist season.
It`s advisable to wear comfortable, layered clothing to adapt to the typical temperature changes of the Patagonian coast. Footwear should be sturdy and suitable for walking, as some trails can be slippery or sandy.
