Details of Day Tours

We will begin our excursion departing from our selected hotels in Puerto Madrynbetween approximately 07:15 or 07:30 AM. Our first stop will be at the Rawson Port, which is found in Playa Unión.

Here we will embark to make our sighting of dolphins, the smallest dolphin in the world. We must take into account that these friendly animals live in freedom, so our navigation patterns will do everything possible to find them but our luck will depend on the dolphins. After one hour of browsing, we will be returning to the port of Rawson and we will have free time for lunch (not included).

After lunch we will go to Punta Tombo, geographical feature where the Magellan penguin. We will make a 1:30 hr visit where we can appreciate how various native animals coexist like gulls, skuas, giant petrels, cormorants, oystercatchers, steamer ducks, and if we are lucky we will also be able to see some characteristic species of the steppe such as guanacos, choiques, maras and foxes.

After that visit, we will be returning to Puerto Madryn approximately 18:30 PM.

Nature and Wildlife Wildlife watching Boat tour

The best time to visit the Punta Tombo Nature Reserve and spot penguins is between September and March. During these months, Magellanic penguins come to the Argentine coast to breed. October is the ideal time, as the penguins are incubating their eggs, while in November and December, the chicks begin to hatch. If you`re planning a trip, it`s advisable to book in advance due to high demand. Furthermore, the temperature is usually pleasant, allowing you to fully enjoy the entire excursion.
The Punta Tombo excursion includes a guided tour of the nature reserve, where you can observe the largest colony of Magellanic penguins in South America. It also includes a boat trip to watch for toninas, small dolphins known for their agility and friendliness. Transportation to and from Puerto Madryn is generally included, as is a bilingual guide who will provide information about the local flora and fauna. It`s recommended to wear comfortable clothing, wear sunscreen, and bring a camera to capture every moment of this adventure.
The hike within the Punta Tombo reserve is easy to moderate, accessible to most visitors, including families with children and seniors. The trails are well marked and maintained, allowing you to walk close to the penguins and observe their natural behavior in their habitat. However, given the uneven terrain in some areas, comfortable, closed-toe shoes are recommended for added safety. Weather conditions can vary, so it`s important to bring a light jacket and sunscreen.
Yes, during the Punta Tombo excursion, in addition to observing Magellanic penguins and dolphins, you can spot various species of local fauna. The reserve is home to a variety of seabirds such as gulls, cormorants, and albatrosses. It`s also possible to encounter guanacos, maras (Patagonian hares), and even Patagonian foxes in the area. The region`s rich biodiversity offers a unique experience for nature lovers, providing numerous opportunities to take photographs and learn about the local ecology.
The Punta Tombo dolphin watching excursion lasts approximately 8 to 10 hours, from departure to return to Puerto Madryn. To fully enjoy this experience, it`s important to wear comfortable clothing and shoes, a jacket to protect from the wind, a hat, and sunglasses. Don`t forget a bottle of water and snacks, as restrooms are usually available, but it`s helpful to have your own supplies. A camera is essential for capturing unique moments, and don`t forget sunscreen and binoculars for better observation.
