DAY 1: Arrival at El Chaltén:
El Chalten
Upon arrival at the bus terminal, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel located in the center of town. The rest of the day you will be free to enjoy as you wish.
Day 2: Trekking on the Cagliero Glacier in El Chaltén:
El Chaltén
At 9:00 a.m. we will start the trekking adventure, following upstream the Diablo River, in a 2-hour walk through a lush lenga forest on a well-maintained trail, which will give us access to the Laguna del Diablo (770 meters above sea level).
At approximately 11:00 am, the second part of this excursion begins, which consists of skirting the northern bank of Laguna del Diablo through easy but irregular terrain until we reach the beginning of a via ferrata (a low-difficulty rock-climbing sector). The total route of this section is 1 km, with 200 meters of unevenness.
Approximately one hour will take us to reach the glacier`s viewpoint. From there, we will be able to observe the unexplored Cagliero South Glacier (950 meters above sea level). From the viewpoint, a short walk takes us to the front of the glacier where the guides will distribute the crampons to the hikers` boots, to begin the third part of our program: the walk and trekking on the glacier. The average stay on the glacier will be approximately 2 hours, depending on the weather conditions and the physical level of the group.
The return will be done by the same way of going with arrival again to the information center approximately 3 hours later. The meeting time with the transfer from El Chaltén will be 5.30pm. We will return to the hotels around 6.30pm
Day 3: Rafting El Chaltén:
El Chaltén
After providing each passenger with the rafting equipment, they will be taken with the guides to the river entrance area, where they will give a talk on rafting technique and safety.
After practicing the paddling technique and safety movements, the group embarks and begins the activity in the water. The first area consists of four kilometers of quiet and winding waters with the view of the Fitz Roy on the back. This is the ideal area to make contact with the raft and the river and to practice the necessary paddling techniques for the next stage.
The second part advances over the area of the ravine. After the initial rapid, we will find a succession of fun and exciting rapids for 8 km. The speed of the river makes the raft beat; ups and downs in the purest waters; a route to let yourself be carried away by the course of nature. For the end, a last descent with an area of 2 km of calm water.
Day 4: Desert Lake Navigation with Trekking:
Vespignani Glacier:
We leave El Chaltén and travel by bus the 36 km that separate us from Lago del Desierto along a beautiful panoramic road with permanent images, among forests and bordering the Río de las Vueltas.
Then, from the Punta Sur dock we sail for about 30 minutes watching the Huemul and Crestón glaciers to disembark in the Vespignani Glacier sector, which is in the middle of the lake.
Once there, we will start the trekking part, always under the supervision of a person in charge of the activity for your safety. You may choose to walk one of the perfectly marked trails in the Vespignani Glacier Reserve, depending on the difficulty and effort you wish to make:
The most demanding trail will take us about 45 minutes at a slow pace to overcome 150 meters of unevenness and access the foot of the Vespignani glacier, plus an incredible view of the north face of Mount Fitz Roy.
As a second option, the intermediate trail takes us with a slight and constant slope in only 15 minutes to an outstanding panoramic point overlooking the Glacier.
After a farewell snack, we embark again to arrive at the Punta Sur pier. From there the bus takes us to El Chaltén.
