We will depart today from
our hotel in San Pedro at approximately 7:00 a.m. to make the most of our morning. We will drive about 55 km to reach the Los Flamencos National Reserve Park , the first stop on this exciting adventure that will take us through diverse landscapes.
Our first stop will be the Salar de Atacama, the largest salt flat in Chile and the third largest in the world.
Its white immensity stretches as far as the eye can see, creating a lunar landscape that contrasts dramatically with the deep blue sky and surrounding mountains. We will have the opportunity to walk through the salt flat, observe the impressive salt formations, and enjoy the vastness of the landscape.
In the middle of the salt flat, we will find one of the largest salt lagoons in the desert, Laguna Chaxa, which is home to numerous migratory birds, including the famous Chilean Flamingo, due to its high salt and nutrient content.
During the tour, our guide will make sure to find the perfect spot with the best postcard-perfect views you`ve ever seen to enjoy breakfast.
After enjoying this moment of rest, we will continue to the Toconao Village A picturesque town located a few kilometers from the
Salar de Atacama. Its cobblestone streetsand
adobe houses offer a rustic charm that contrasts with the surrounding aridity.
One of the most notable places in Toconao is the Church of San Lucas, built in the 18th century and declared a National Monument. It is also famous for its local crafts, especially sculptures made of
liparite stone, a volcanic rock.
We will soak up the local culture, and then continue to the last, but not least, impressive spot, La Quebrada de Jere, an oasis in the middle of the arid desert. Here, we will find a small stream that winds between high stone canyons and lush vegetation that includes palm trees and carob trees.
It is also an important archaeological site, as it contains petroglyphs and pictographs that reveal the presence of ancient cultures in the region.
This tour, which combines the Salar de Atacama, the town of Toconao, and the Quebrada de Jere, will take us on a unique experience where natural beauty, local culture, and history intertwine in an astonishing way.
It`s an opportunity
to connect with the diversity of San Pedro de Atacama and appreciate the
majesty of this remote corner of Chile.
