The excursion begins when we pick you up from your accommodation in El Peñón, a picturesque town located in the Catamarcan puna landscape, just 40 km from the Campo de Piedra Pómez, a strategic point to access one of the most extraordinary landscapes in Argentina. The trip is made in 4x4 vehicles, prepared to cross the challenging routes of the region and enjoy the landscape at more than 3,000 meters above sea level.
The first stop is the Salar de la Hoyada, a vast and dazzling white terrain that seems infinite. The White Dunes, with their fine, shiny sand, offer a unique visual contrast along the way. Further on, we arrive at the La Hoyada Volcano, a place full of geological formations that tell the story of ancient volcanic events.
The Pumice Field, the star of the tour, is located in the north of the province of Catamarca, in Antofagasta de la Sierra. There you will be impressed by its gigantic natural sculptures, which are the result of wind erosion. The Sand Waves, soft and wavy, give life to the desert.
We will also pass through the Carachi Pampa area, a fascinating region also located in the incredible Catamarca puna, known for its diversity of landscapes and colors. The Carachi Pampa Volcano, with its imposing presence and dark tones, rises alone in the middle of a vast stony pampa. Around the volcano, there are extensive areas of petrified lava that contrast with the white sand dunes and the reddish waters of the nearby lagoons.
Finally, the Pink Lagoon, with its tinted water and inhabited by flamingos, is a perfect farewell that combines tranquility and beauty.
