We will start our getaway from the meeting point at 8:00 am . We will leave Las Grutas heading south, following National Route No. 3.
From the route we will know the history and some of the main points of this area of Patagonia; after 140 km we will find the town of Sierra Grande, home to the largest iron mine in Argentina. It was a ghost town from the mine`s closure in 1994 until its reopening 20 years later.
Fifty more kilometers to the south we will cross the border with the province of Chubut and after an hour we will enter Peninsula Valdés, Natural Heritage of Humanity (UNESCO).
Our first stop on the Peninsula will be the The Itsmo Ameghino Interpretation Center which has 6 rooms where we can learn about the history of the native peoples, the fauna and flora of the Patagonian steppe and the coast of the peninsula, the marine life in the Argentine sea, we will see a gigantic skeleton of the Southern Right Whale that will serve as an introduction to the sighting on board, and from the panoramic viewpoint of the center , we will be able to contemplate the Golfo Nuevo, Golfo San José and Isla Pájaros.
We will continue our journey and a few kilometers to Before arriving at the colorful town of Punta Pirámides, we will visit the wolfhouse , where an important colony of Lobos de Un Pelo is located, that between November and January gather there to have their young. At this point we will enjoy a beautiful landscape, surrounded by seagulls, cormorants, dolphins, whales and occasionally killer whales that visit these beaches with deep blue waters, cut by cliffs and An enviable breeze.
Once in Puerto Pirámides we will embark for almost two hours to see the Southern Right Whale , a community of approximately 1,500 whales meets every year to mate in this area of the continent and treat us to a show of jumps and seductive movements that can be seen up close.
After the sighting and depending on the weather and our time, we can have lunch in front of the sea in an old still life in the port or we will directly depart towards the north of Peninsula Valdés towards Estancia San Lorenzo where we will have lunch and learn the secret of how to live in a Patagonian ranch and the art of shearing.
After lunch, we will go to the coast in an old military truck to enjoy another of the most beautiful and unmissable landscapes in the area, La Pingüinera, it is a space A coastal area full of Magellanic Penguins that have their young in spring. We can be very close to the penguins as long as we respect and preserve their habitat and tranquility.
We will close our day by knowing a little more about the history of the place and the surrounding fauna . We will return to Las Grutas by the same route. The tour ends with the drop off at the meeting point around 7pm.
