Argentina’s second center for quality wine production, Cafayate is a popular tourist destination but still has a tranquil small-town feel. It’s easily reached from Salta via the spectacular Quebrada de Cafayate, and is also the southern terminus of the Valles Calchaquíes route. With a selection of excellent accommodations for every budget, and several wineries to visit in and around town, Cafayate invites laying up for a while to explore the surrounding area. Cafayate is famous for its torrontés, a grape producing aromatic but unexpectedly dry white wine, but the bodegas hereabouts also produce some fine reds from cabernet sauvignon, malbec, and tannat.

The climate in Cafayate is generally mild and dry. For most of the year, temperatures range between 15°C and 25°C. The best time to visit is from March to May and from September to November, when the weather is pleasant and rainfall is scarce. During these months, you can also enjoy the grape harvest and regional festivals.
Cafayate is famous for its vineyards and wineries, where you can taste the famous Torrontés wine. In addition, the Quebrada de las Conchas is a must-see for its impressive rock formations, such as the Amphitheatre and the Garganta del Diablo. To get to Cafayate from Buenos Aires, you must first take a flight to Salta, the capital of the province of Salta.
