An unprecedented expedition, our Weddell Sea cruise will explore the habitat of the Emperor penguin in the vicinity of Cerro Nevado Island. We will visit the area by helicopter and see a variety of birds including Adelie and Papuan Penguins.
In search of the Emperor Penguin will be a 11-day adventure aboard the Ortelius Cruise, nbsp ; accompanied by an unforgettable helicopter flight that will give us the exclusive opportunity to see the famous penguin colony south of Snow Hill Island, which has around than 4,000 breeding pairs.
Heavy ice can impede entry to the area from the Weddell Sea, and ice in the colony itself could break apart and begin to melt sooner than expected; With this in mind, the goal is to stop the ship between the Antarctic Sound and James Clark Ross Island, near the edge of the ice, and find emperor penguins on their way to open water. nbsp ; Exciting helicopter flights make this search possible, allowing us to land in otherwise inaccessible places.
