Our Mendoza City Tour takes you on a trip around the picturesque old and new towns of Mendoza. The area is known for its architectural design, traditional groves and wide, clean pavements. We’ll head through the city streets, all the while hearing about the history and culture of the people who transformed a desert into a thriving oasis.
Our tour begins in the Área Fundacional, an historic site where the city was founded in
1561 by Don Pedro del Castillo. Nowadays, you’ll see the Foundational Area Museum, Plaza Fundacional and the Jesuit ruins which were destroyed by an earthquake in 1861.
We’ll then head over to the main square, around which sits the cathedral, the Basílica de San Francisco, the former Banco Hipotecario (now the Department of Culture and Tourism), the Andean Trade Centre, the former Bank of Mendoza, Plaza Independencia, Plaza España and government buildings.
Our tour will continue along the famed Emilio Civit street and through the surrounding residential area to the Parque General San Martín, the biggest green space in the city which stretches over 900 acres. We’ll enter through the famous gates and head past the Caballos de Marly statues, the Rosedal and the lake towards Cerro de la Gloria, where we’ll see the Gesta Sanmartiniana monument.
Finally, we’ll head over to the Challao where we’ll find the shrine to the Virgen de Lourdes and some incredible views of the Mendoza mountains.
