Reviews of From Baltra To Puerto Ayora: Transfer With Turtle Ranch And Lava Tunnels

Best Arrival Ever: Smooth Transfer, Giant Tortoises, And Epic Lava Tunnels

Reviews

Honestly, this was the chillest way to land in the Galápagos. Met at Baltra, quick hop across the canal, then a comfy ride toward Puerto Ayora with a super friendly Tangol guide. The stop at the turtle ranch was magic - massive tortoises roaming everywhere, so close but still respectful. Then we wandered through lava tunnels that felt straight out of an adventure movie. No hassles with bags, no waiting around, and we still made it to town with time to spare. If you want your transfer to double as a mini-tour, this is the move.

This tour combines a comfortable transfer from Seymour Airport (Baltra, GPS code) to your hotel in Puerto Ayora with a nature experience: a visit to a giant tortoise ranch and lava tunnels on Santa Cruz Island. Upon arrival, the team will assist you as you cross the Itabaca Channel by public/private transport and continue through the highlands to observe endemic wildlife and volcanic formations. Afterward, you will be transferred to your accommodation. It`s an excellent option to start your Galapagos trip stress-free, making the most of your vacation time and enjoying an authentic ecotourism experience on your first day.
The typical itinerary is: pick-up upon arrival at Baltra Airport, transfer to the Itabaca Channel, ferry crossing, ascent to the Santa Cruz highlands, stop at a giant tortoise ranch and hike through lava tunnels (approx. 60–90 min), and continuation to your hotel in Puerto Ayora. The total duration is usually 3 to 4.5 hours, depending on your flight schedule, sea/weather conditions, and local traffic. This tour operates year-round and is coordinated with flight arrivals. Times may be adjusted during peak season. Always follow the guide`s instructions to make the most of your visit.
Typically includes: welcome assistance, combined land and water transportation between Baltra and Puerto Ayora, bilingual/local guide, visit to the tortoise ranch and lava tunnels, and final transfer to your accommodation. Typically does not include: Transit Control Card (TCT), Galapagos National Park fee, possible ranch entrance fees, Itabaca Channel ferry/barge cost, meals and beverages, or gratuities. Exact inclusions may vary depending on the operator and the type of service (private or shared). We recommend reviewing your Tangol voucher and confirming in writing what is covered before booking to avoid unexpected expenses.
For this Galapagos excursion, bring closed-toe, non-slip shoes, lightweight, quick-drying clothing, a lightweight waterproof jacket, a hat or cap, sunglasses, biodegradable sunscreen, insect repellent, a reusable water bottle, and cash in USD for local payments. Difficulty level: easy to moderate; the lava tunnels have uneven floors, are damp, and have low ceilings in some sections. It is not recommended for those who wear heels or have severe mobility issues; the hike can be omitted if necessary. Please respect park regulations: maintain a distance of 2 meters from wildlife, do not feed animals, and stay on marked trails.
Luggage: Generally, one suitcase and one carry-on bag per passenger are allowed. If you are traveling with surfboards, very large backpacks, or snorkeling equipment, please notify us in advance so we can arrange space. Families with children are welcome; infants may require a baby carrier in the tunnels. Accessibility: The tunnel visit may be limited for wheelchairs, but the Baltra–Puerto Ayora transfer is easily accessible. Possible extra costs: Itabaca Channel ferry, ranch entrance fee, and gratuities. Change/Cancellation Policy: Rescheduling is usually permitted with 24–48 hours` notice; please check your booking conditions to avoid penalties.
