The best time to visit Valparaíso is during spring (September to November) and summer (December to March). During these months, the weather is warmer and more pleasant, ideal for exploring the colorful streets, enjoying the nearby beaches, and participating in cultural events. Additionally, during the summer there are festivals and outdoor activities that you won`t want to miss.
In Valparaíso, you can`t miss visiting the Alegre and Concepción hills, known for their vibrant murals and bohemian architecture. Plus, the Reina Victoria elevator offers stunning panoramic views. Other must-see attractions include La Sebastiana (Pablo Neruda`s house-museum), the Muelle Prat, and the Paseo 21 de Mayo. Each place offers you a unique and authentic experience of porteño culture.
Valparaiso is generally safe for tourists, although as with any city, it is advisable to take precautions. Avoid walking alone in poorly lit or deserted areas, especially at night. Keep your belongings in sight and be aware of your surroundings. In tourist areas and points of interest, there is a greater police presence, which provides greater security for visitors.
Valparaíso offers a wide variety of accommodation options to suit all budgets and tastes, from boutique hotels and hostels on the Alegre and Concepción hills to apartments and guest houses in the city centre. Valparaíso`s gastronomy is rich and varied, with a strong emphasis on seafood. We recommend trying the `caldillo de congrio`, a very tasty fish soup, and the `empanadas de mariscos`. Don`t miss the `chorrillana`, a more substantial dish with meat, potatoes and onions. For dessert, enjoy a good `alfajor chileno`. In Valparaíso you will find many restaurants, markets and street stalls where you can taste these delicacies.
