Hiking Emilio Frey Refuge In Bariloche

Reviews 5/5 Stars - Based on 5 Reviews

Highlights of Emilio Frey Shelter Trek

The trek to the Emilio Frey Refuge will be the unmissable option for adventurers, trekking enthusiasts and even for climbers.

The Refuge is located on the shores of the green waters and cold waters of the Toncek lagoon and at the foot of the Frey spire of the Cerro Catedral. It is one of the most picturesque in the region due to the carved granite, the clad wood and the ceilings of tiles that harmonize with the Patagonian landscape. It remains open throughout the year, even in winter, comfortably accommodating up to 40 people at 1700 meters above sea level.

Along the way we will go through a native coigües forest, we will cross the Van Titter stream, we will discover the Piedritas parador and we will enjoy beautiful views of the Toncek lagoon and the Andes Mountains.

Once at the base of the hill, just to the side from the parking lot, we will set out on a wide and flat path that after half an hour of travel becomes a narrow path surrounded by small streams and with a privileged view of Lake Gutiérrez.

We will continue moving towards south until we reach the Van Titter Valley, we will cross the homonymous stream by a bridge and continue along a path surrounded by coigües and native flora of Patagonia. After three hours of walking we will arrive at Piedritas, a classic rest stop.

After a brief pause, we will have an hour of ascent through steeper terrain until we reach the Emilio Frey Refuge, at an altitude of 1700 meters.
