Hike in the Perito Moreno Glacier

The Glaciares National Park a great variety of excursions are offered, but the most chosen is the mini trekking through the Perito Moreno Glacier, who passed through this experience says that  the sensation of walking through the giant ice mass is something unique and exciting. 


It is important to note that  the excursion of mini trekking to Perito Moreno is a full day, since it has a duration of 9 hours.  It is done   in the season which runs from the beginning  of August to the last days of May , when the weather is usually quite cool in El Calafate. 


The adventure begins when passengers are picked up from their hotel in the city to the National Park los Glaciers It is an 80 kilometer transfer to where the glaciers are and a great scenery of mountains, lakes and forests. 








In the park they give you access to the balconies of the glacier for a whole hour,  where you can see the best landscapes and take amazing   photos of all the sights. Then all the adventurers are taken to  a boat, where they sail 20 minutes   through the Rico arm, enjoying impressive views of the front wall of the  Perito Moreno glacier


Arriving at the opposite shore, get off the boat and the guides mountain, bilingual and specialized welcome, taking everyone to a small refuge, where  they will deliver the crampons   for   power  walk   firmly and safely  on ice. The feeling is something impressive!


There are several excursions to get to know the Perito Moreno Glacier, but the experience and sensation of the mini trekking is the most recommended because  allows you to discover with enough time and with interesting stories from the guides, every corner of this unique wonder in the world that was declared "World Heritage" by UNESCO in 1981. You can also see streams, small lagoons , ravines, cravasses   and lots of ice formations in striking blue colors.


Throughout the walk, explanations are given about the flora, fauna, general glaciology of the region and also about the particular phenomenon that occurs in the Perito Moreno Glacier that eventually produces its rupture. When the end of the excursion is coming, a walk through the forest is made and one returns to the walkways and balconies to continue enjoying the incredible panoramic views. Then they return to the bus and each passenger is transferred to their hotel in the city of El Calafate.







When choosing  this excursion offered by Tangol to get to know the Perito Moreno Glacier fully, it is important to bear in mind that   must be reserved in advance,  since there is a quota of people to enter to the National Park Los Glaciares  and it is a highly requested excursion. There are also certain questions to consider: 


What are the physical requirements of the excursion?

- Understand the ages  between 10 and 65 years.
- Due to the degree of effort and difficulty of the activity, nbsp ; is not allowed   for  overweight people.
-  Not being pregnant.
-  Not suffering from diseases with cardiac risk   or functional or organic deterioration.
-  Not suffering from disabling diseases   in relation to coordination and motor skills.



What to take to the glacier?

-  Jacket   raincoat
-  Warm and waterproof T-shirt, jumpsuit and pants, the  thermal clothing   always It is a good option.
-  Trekking boots  
-  Backpack (40 Lts. Approx)
-  Sunscreen, sunscreen, gloves , hat.
-  Food for lunch and water
