Manaus is the largest city in the Amazon.  It is an urban place in the middle of the jungle. Manaus is a busy trade center constructed with many imported materials from Europe.

Believe or not; Manaus is not just a city to know; in fact, it is a place where you can find adventure. It is a place where you can enjoy a natural wonder like the Amazon.

As a city, this place has a colored amazing architecture, riverfront views, and world-class eating.

Its colonial buildings are the main attractions of the city. Here, we list some of the most important.

Teatro Amazonas

It is an Italian Renaissance-style Opera House. It is the most famous building, opened in 1896, and it is protected as a National Monument.

This place, built with imported materials from Europe, has a magnificent architecture and has many details. In fact, the doorways are of Italian marble, the staircase is of English wrought-iron, and many of its chandeliers are Murano glass from Venice.

The dome, with 36.000 tiles imported from Germany, is amazing. Before the economy of Manaus starts to decline, the theater fell into disrepair. However, this theater was restored in 1980's.

The theater is used for its original purpose nowadays.

Mercado Adolpho Lisboa

The Mercado is a National monument. It has stained glass windows, and iron frameworks made in Gustave Eiffel’s Paris workshop.

This place is a highlight spot because tourists come to the local life.

In the market, you can find everything; it goes from fresh fish and tropical fruits to handcrafts.

Palacio Rio Negro

This palace, built in 1903, was the residence of a German rubber merchant. Later, it was the seat of the State Government of Amazonas.

In 1997, it was transformed into a cultural center.

This house has a lot of marble and native woods. In the grounds, there are shrubs, trees, and many flowers.

Museum of Northern Man

This is an ethnographic museum and has extensive collections of material related to regional culture and folk traditions.

This museum combines archeological finds, indigenous art, and everyday items to show the past and the contemporary culture.
