In Tatón, a town in the department of Tinogasta, in the west of the province of
Catamarca, there is an immense sandbank of dunes that hide a treasure : the "Federico Kirbus" dune, the
highest in the world.
It bears the name of its discoverer, a journalist, writer and disseminator of the geography, history and curiosities of Argentina and South America.
This dune is 1,230 meters long, its base is 1,615 meters above sea level and its top is 2,845 meters above sea level.
All this geological formation leaves those who visit it with their mouths open. The favorite activity of tourists is sandboarding. Several have fun doing acrobatic jumps to get the most original postcard. Those who prefer tranquility choose to walk the area and photograph the landscape.
