We will begin this tour departing from the passenger hotels in Coyhaique at approximately 6 AM to begin our journey along the Carretera Asutral Sur, to the town of Puerto Tranquilo.
In our journey of approximately 223 km we will be able to contemplate beautiful forests of lenga, ciruelillo or notro, coigüe and ñire. We will also pass by important landmarks of the region, such as the Chiguay Lagoon, Piedra del Conde and Portezuelo Ibañez, which has the highest height of the entire Carretera Austral. We will be able to appreciate Cerro Castillo as we approach the valley of the Ibañez River, crossing the new Cerro Castillo National Park.
We will have several photo stops along the way, where we will pass by the Dead Forest, witness of the Hudson Volcano eruption that took place in 1991, and we will descend through the Murta River Valley, until we find ourselves facing the immensity of General Carrera Lake.
We will arrive at Puerto Tranquilo in time to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon we will make a brief transfer to General Carrera Lake to make the expected navigation to the Marble Chapels or "Capillas de Marmol". This place of singular beauty and formed by the action of the lake on the limestone, has caves of great attraction.
After touring the area and obtaining impressive views of Capillas de Mármol, we will return to the city of Coyhaique, where we will make a previous stop at Villa del Cerro Castillo to buy a snack, if you wish.
