We will begin this tour by departing from the passengers` hotels in Coyhaique at approximately 6 AM to begin our journey along the Southern Highway, towards the town of Puerto Tranquilo.
On our approximately 223 km journey, we will be able to admire beautiful lenga, ciruelillo or notro, coigüe, and ñire forests. We will also pass by important landmarks of the region, such as Laguna Chiguay, Piedra del Conde, and Portezuelo Ibáñez, which has the highest point on the entire Southern Highway. We will be able to appreciate Cerro Castillo as we approach the Ibañez River Valley, crossing the new Cerro Castillo National Park. We will have several photo stops along the way, where we will pass through the Dead Forest, witness to the eruption of Hudson Volcano that took place in 1991, and descend through the Murta River Valley, until we come face to face with the immensity of General Carrera Lake. We will arrive at Puerto Tranquilo in time to enjoy Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we will take a short transfer to General Carrera Lake for the much-anticipated boat trip to the Marble Caves. This uniquely beautiful place, formed by the lake`s action on the limestone, features stunning caves. After exploring the area and enjoying breathtaking views of the Marble Caves, we will return to the city of Coyhaique, making a stop at Villa del Cerro Castillo to purchase a snack, if desired.
