About this tour
Just 70 kilometers from Bogotá, in the picturesque municipality of Fusagasugá, the historic Hacienda Coloma awaits you, a place that invites you to immerse yourself in the essence of Colombian coffee. The tour begins with a walk through its lush gardens, where the diversity of flowers and the singing of local birds create a unique atmosphere.
The journey continues to the coffee plantations, where you will discover the meticulous coffee growing process. In this region, mainly Coffea arabica varieties are grown, recognized for their smoothness and superior quality. Among the most notable are Caturra, Castillo, and Colombia, each adapted to the specific conditions of this area.
Afterwards, the tour will take you to the hacienda`s processing facilities, where you will observe each phase of the bean`s transformation: drying, milling, roasting, and packaging. During this stage, a demonstration is given of the different coffee roasting profiles, from light roasts that highlight acidic and fruity notes, to dark roasts that offer more intense and bitter flavors. In addition, you will learn to distinguish between specialty coffee and conventional coffee, understanding factors such as the quality of the bean, the cultivation process, and the fair trade practices that characterize specialty coffee.
