The City Tour and Machu Picchu excursion includes a visit to Cusco`s most iconic sites, such as the Temple of the Sun (Qoricancha), the Cathedral, and the nearby ruins of Sacsayhuamán, Qenqo, and Tambomachay. Also included is a train ride to Aguas Calientes, where Machu Picchu is located, as well as admission to the historic sanctuary. Transportation, professional tour guides, and, in some cases, meals are included, ensuring a complete and enriching cultural tourism experience in Peru.
The best time to visit Machu Picchu is between April and October. During this tourist season, the weather is drier, allowing you to enjoy the majestic Inca architecture and panoramic views without the interruption of the rains. Tourist numbers are high during these months, so it is recommended to book tickets and tours in advance to secure a spot at this Wonder of the World. Taking advantage of the optimal weather will guarantee a memorable experience at the Machu Picchu citadel.
To visit Machu Picchu and fully enjoy its archaeological wonders, it is recommended to dedicate at least a full day. The tour generally begins early in Cusco, allowing for a morning arrival at Machu Picchu, which offers the opportunity to explore the citadel and discover its rich Inca history. This includes ample time to tour the various structures, admire the views, and take unforgettable photographs. If you choose to spend the night in Aguas Calientes, you can extend your visit to explore additional hikes such as climbing Machu Picchu or Huayna Picchu.
While not required, hiring a tour guide for Machu Picchu will greatly enhance your travel experience. Guides are knowledgeable about Inca history, architecture, and culture, providing valuable context that enriches your visit. This sightseeing excursion will allow you to better understand the meanings behind the site`s impressive structures. Additionally, a guide can help you navigate the various tourist routes and ensure you make the most of your time at the sanctuary, maximizing your travel experience and ensuring an educational and memorable visit.
For your excursion to Machu Picchu, it`s recommended to wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing, such as a waterproof jacket or windbreaker, especially if you`re traveling during the rainy season. Also bring sturdy hiking shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a cap or hat. Don`t forget your ID, entrance ticket, and enough water to stay hydrated throughout your visit. While there are restrictions on the size of luggage allowed at the site, it`s advisable to bring a small backpack with the essentials to avoid any mishaps during the tour.
