The Colorado Volcano is a hill very close to the town of San Martín de los Andes and its summit can be seen from many places such as Catritre, 7-Lake Route, Quilaquina, Trompul, Lake Lolog and others.
We will start by picking up each passenger at the lodge to go to the base of the mountain. The transfer will take about 40 minutes.
Having started walking, we`ll cross the pampas to the very base. Bordering a stream, we will enter a gigantic lenga forest with trees that reach 30 meters high and Colihues reedbeds and we will go deeper and deeper into a canyon that proposes a not very demanding but constant ascent.
As we gain height the vegetation becomes more and more stunted and will allow us to have a better view of the whole Lacar Basin, until it turns into scrub.
We will cross a large number of natural rocky viewpoints and arrive at the pre-summit, where we will begin to see a ground that will be increasingly reddish until we reach the edge. The texture of each rock will be very similar to pumice and this is because we will be arriving at the sector of the old volcanic cone that with its different eruptions, bath of solidified lava all the summit.
The summit is the epicenter of the area, because from it we have a free 360-degree view, where you can see Lake Lacar, the Chapelco mountain range, Cerro Abanico, the entire mountain range, Cerro Sabana, Mallo, Lake and Cerro Lolog the inevitable Lanin Volcano and countless other points of reference.
The tour ends with the passengers returning to their hotels.
